About Waiorea Community Recycling Centre
Waiōrea Community Recycling Centre (CRC), operated by McLaren Park Henderson South Community Trust (MPHS), is a leading recycling hub in Western Springs, Auckland. Established in 2022 through a partnership with Auckland Council, the centre aims to improve waste management and promote sustainability.
The name "Waiōrea," chosen during community consultation, reflects the cultural and ecological heritage of Western Springs Lake, meaning "waters of the eel."
Waiōrea CRC offers drop-off points for recyclables and reusables, supporting local environmental efforts. Its educational program, Our Pū Mātauranga, fosters environmental awareness and community involvement.
Guided by our Whakataukī , "Whiria te tangata, whiria te taiao, kia puāwai ai te ora o te ao" (Weave the people, weave the environment, so that the life of the world will flourish), the center highlights the connection between people and nature.
